Family of Victims in Fatal Crash Suing Trucking Company and Driver

No motor vehicle accident is ever a good thing. Besides the obvious property damage, more importantly, many times people suffer life-altering injuries that can forever change their future. While any motor vehicle accident in the LaSalle area has the potential to be serious, when an accident involves a large semi-truck or tractor-trailer, it usually results in devastating consequences for those in the other vehicle(s). Tractor-trailers tend to cause much worse damage simply because of their size and weight.

While truck drivers are trained to be careful and cautious, they don’t always follow the rules. Plus, sometimes, trucking companies don’t adhere to the driving restrictions for their drivers, which can also be troublesome. When a truck driver and/or the trucking company for whom he or she drives is responsible for an accident because of carelessness or negligence then anyone who is hurt might want to pursue legal action.

The family of a young Chicago mother who was killed along with her two small children is suing the trucking company and the driver of the truck that struck and killed the three family members. The 30-year-old mother was walking with her children, who were nine and 4-years-old, when the truck, which was making a turn, struck and killed them. According to court documents, even though witnesses say the driver had a green light when he made the turn he was allegedly talking on his cell phone at the time of the accident.

The 23-year-old driver of the truck was given a citation for making an improper left turn on a two-way road in addition to a citation for not yielding to a pedestrian at a crosswalk. The wrongful death lawsuit, filed by the women’s aunt, names both the driver of the truck as well as the company for which he worked as defendants.

This is obviously a tragic situation that apparently could have been avoided. The family members of the three victims in this case will never have another chance to see their loved ones again. While no amount of money will bring them back, if the truck driver was indeed negligent then he should be held responsible. Likewise, if you or a family has been hurt in an accident involving a truck then you might also want to seek damages. Now would be a good time for you to contact an experienced truck accident attorney in Streator, IL for help. Call the law office of Brassfield & Krueger, at 815-315-9845, or reach out to us online.
