Crane Accidents

Rockford, IL Crane Accident Attorneys Are Here For You

Professional Representation For Workers Injured In Crane Accidents

With all the building, construction, and restoration that goes on in our area, it is not uncommon to see cranes towering above the landscape. Invaluable when it comes to hoisting and lifting heavy building parts and materials, these massive machines can present significant hazards for those working with or near them.

At Brassfield & Krueger, Ltd., we understand the serious impacts crane accidents can have on workers and their families. Injuries suffered in these accidents are often severe or fatal. Our Illinois crane accident attorneys are dedicated to helping those impacted by these accidents, so that they can get the justice they deserve.

Illinois Crane Accidents, Injuries, and Fatalities

An April 2016 ABC 7 crane accident report highlights a case involving a ComEd contractor in Forest Park who suffered serious injuries as the result of a crane collapse. The contractor was working on a cherry picker near a construction site where a crane was being used by workers to lift a metal utility pole into its base. When the pole mistakenly fell from the crane, it crashed into electrical power lines, which struck the worker and knocked him thirty feet to the ground.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) reports that while crane accidents are attributed as being the primary cause for one out of every 1,000 deaths in the U.S., the actual number in which cranes are a contributing factor is likely much higher. OSHA indicates the following are being among the leading types of crane accidents:

  • Collapses and tip-overs due to wind or poor construction
  • Dropped loads caused by excessive weights and improper securing
  • Crushing by the counterweight used, due to workplace safety oversights

OSHA estimates that contact with live wiring, such as in the Forest Park case, is responsible for nearly half of all crane accident injuries and deaths.

Compensation for Crane Accidents

Injuries resulting from crane accidents can leave workers permanently disabled, requiring ongoing medical care and support, while being unable to provide for their loved ones. When these accidents occur, you may be entitled to compensation, either through workers’ compensation or through a third-party claim. These claims may be filed against the crane manufacturer, the subcontractor responsible for assembling, maintaining, or operating the crane, or other parties involved.
