Streator, IL Personal Injury Lawyer Discusses Fatal Construction Accident

Working at a construction site is inherently dangerous. There are many ways that workers, or anyone else visiting the site, can be injured. From falling debris, to malfunctioning equipment the possibility of injury is always present. In some cases even people who happen to be nearby a construction zone, but who have nothing to with the job, can also be injured. For example, if scaffolding falls while someone is walking by, or if debris from a crane falls in a nearby location, these kinds of accidents can cause serious injuries.

However, those individuals who actually work on-site at construction zones are usually in the most danger. Because construction zones involve so many pieces of heavy equipment and material, as well as many dangerous working conditions, injuries are very common. Additionally, many of these injuries are very severe and in some instances they prove to be fatal.

According to a recent report, a Cook County woman has filed a wrongful death suit after her husband was killed in a construction accident earlier this year. The 45-year-old man was reportedly crushed by a crane and received fatal injuries as a result of the accident. His wife has reportedly filed a lawsuit alleging several improprieties in the incident. She has also named several defendants in her lawsuit.

According to court documents, the woman’s suit names the contracting company in charge of the project, Leopardo Companies Inc., as well as five other companies. Her suit claims that Leopardo was negligent because it didn’t inspect the crane and it failed to enforce safety rules on site. She also claims that the contractor did not give her husband sufficient warning concerning the dangers of working on the crane. The claim also states that Leopardo failed to comply with Occupational Safety and Health Administration codes. In the lawsuit, the man’s wife also made similar claims against five other companies.

This situation is obviously very tragic, and no amount of money will bring this man back. However, if the contractor and/or any of the other companies named in the lawsuit are found to have acted negligently then this woman could be awarded a significant amount of compensation for her loss, pain and suffering. That’s important because she has not only lost her husband but she also lost the financial security of his income.

That’s why it’s important for anyone who has lost a loved one in a serious accident, due to negligence, to seek compensation. This compensation can help provide peace of mind and help you focus on recovering and healing from your loss.
